Will Smale is the older brother of Sophia Smale, the England Women’s Under 19 international and a member of the successful Oval Invincibles team that won the Women’s Hundred in 2022.

Educated at Rougemont School in Newport and King’s College, Taunton, the right-handed batter and occasional wicket-keeper played in age-group cricket for Wales besides making his debut for Wales Minor Counties in 2018. The following year, he also made his debut in first-class cricket whilst on a gap year in Zimbabwe by playing for North-West Warriors.

Will has continued his education at Cardiff Metropolitan University and in 2022 he made his debut for the Cardiff UCCE team. In addition to playing for Glamorgan 2nd XI, Will has also appeared in second eleven cricket for Derbyshire, Somerset, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire, in addition to playing for Newport and Pontarddulais in the South Wales Premier League, as well as Taunton Deane in the West of England Premier League.

After impressing in the Second Eleven T20 competition in 2023, Will made his 1st XI debut for Glamorgan in the Vitality Blast T20 competition against Surrey at The Oval. He was also a regular member of the Welsh county’s T20 side during 2024, as well as the being a member of the Glamorgan team which won the Metro Bank One-Day Cup in 2024 with his forthright batting at the start of the innings helping Glamorgan reach what proved to be a match-winning total.

Will duly made his first-class debut for Glamorgan in their closing County Championship match of 2024 against Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens. 2025 saw Will make his maiden 1st XI hundred as he reached three figures in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup match against Surrey at The OVal. In October 2025, Will captained an MCC tour party to Zimbabwe.
