Jack Hope-Bell became Glamorgan’s youngest-ever centurion in List A cricket on 22 July 2026 when, aged 19 years and 9 days, he scored a century in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup match against the Sussex Sharks at Neath. The efforts of the Abergavenny-born batter eclipsed the achievements of the late Tom Maynard who, against Northamptonshire at Colwyn Bay in August 2009, had scored 108 aged 20 years, four months and 15 days.
The match at The Gnoll was also Jack’s 1st XI debut and, in scoring 123, the teenager who was on a rookie contract with the Welsh county, also became only the fourth batter to post a century in their first innings for Glamorgan in List A cricket. The others though to achieve the feat included Jacques Kallis and Viv Richards, who were already well-established international stars, whilst the century by Bernard Hedges came during Glamorgan’s inaugural List A contest in the Gillette Cup in 1963, with the Pontypridd-born batter having played county cricket since 1950.
Together with wicket-keeper Alex Horton, the pair shared what proved to be match-winning partnership as they added a Club record 240 in 35.4 overs for the sixth wicket after the visiting attack had made early inroads after opting to bowl first. Their efforts beat Glamorgan’s previous best stand for that wicket in List A games set by Colin Ingram and Tom Cullen who had added 186 against Kent at Sophia Gardens in the same competition during 2022. Overall, it was also the fourth highest stand in the Club’s history in List A cricket.
Jack is a product of Newport CC and has represented Wales in age-group teams since the age of fourteen. The right-handed batter made his Glamorgan 2nd XI debut in 2023, before appearing the following year in the ECB’s Elite Player Under 18 Development Squad, besides being a member of the Glamorgan squad which appeared at Second Eleven T20 Finals Day in 2024. He continued his progression in 2025 by being chosen in the England Young Lions squad as well as playing for the England U19 team in their one-day series against their counterparts from Bangladesh as well as in 2026 in the one-day series with South Africa.
Jack subsequently made his first-class debut in Glamorgan’s Rothesay County Championship match against Warwickshire at Cardiff during the first week of September 2026.
