John Bryan was a mainstay of Gloucester CC, with the solicitor and magistrate’s clerk being a late substitute in the Glamorganshire side, raised by Rev. Charles Page Wood, which met the club on the Spa Ground for a friendly on 29 and 30 July 1867.

Batting at number three John scored 6 in his only innings and was replaced by HJ Griffin for the remainder of the game – who presumably had been unavoidably delayed on the first day of the contest.

John went on to captain the Gloucester club, with the right-handed batter also making a couple of first-class appearances for Gloucestershire during 1873, against Surrey at The Oval and also Sussex at Hove.
