In 1862 a player listed as “Mr. F Buzzard” played for the South Wales Cricket Club against I Zingari at Lord’s, scoring 16 and 3 as the Welsh side narrowly lost by one run. It proved to be his one and only appearance for the Club.
This is believed to be Francis Alfred Buzzard who was born in London during 1829 and qualified as a mining engineer and manager. It is believed that he may have worked as a manager of a Gold Mine in South Africa before returning to the UK where he was recorded in the 1871 Census as a lodger with his brother in Westbury-on-Trym. He may have subsequently worked in the tin mines of Cornwall.
