A member of Swansea CC, Arthur Richards opened the batting for the Gentlemen of Glamorgan on his one and only appearance for the all-amateur team, against their counterparts from Carmarthenshire in a two-day friendly at Stradey Park on 27 and 28 July 1914. He scored 34 and 13 in the eight-wicket defeat.
The following day, Arthur also played in a Glamorgan XI which met a Combined Briton Ferry side (Town and Steelworks). He again opened the batting and made 0 and 22, as the county team won by 50 runs,
Born in the London area, he was the step-son of Thomas Thatcher, a music teacher, who moved to work in Swansea in the early 1910s. Arthur worked as a clerk and subsequently lived in Briton Ferry and Aberavon.
