William Hore was the son of a Cornish-born brick and slate merchant in Swansea, and played for Glamorganshire in 1863 and 1864 before dying prematurely in his home town at the age of 22 .

After leaving school, William secured a post as a clerk at a copper smelters in Swansea and, having impressed playing for Cadoxton CC and Swansea CC, he made his debut for Glamorganshire on 23 and 24 June 1863 at Bryn-y-Mor Field against Carmarthenshire. Batting at number six, the youngster made 1 and 0 in the drawn game. William also featured in the return match on 7 and 8 September at Llanelly House where, opening the batting, he scored 18 and 7.

William also made his debut in 1863 for the Welsh Wanderers in their match at Brecon and the following year he also featured in their game against the students from Jesus College, Oxford. On 8 and 9 September, 1864 he was also chosen to play for Glamorganshire at The Gnoll in Neath against Carmarthenshire. This time, he batted at number eleven and scored 2 and 0 in what, tragically, proved to his final match of note.
