William Dunford enjoyed a decent career in club cricket with Cardiff Commercials, and subsequently the town club, and during August 1895 he made his solitary appearance for Glamorgan in their away match with Herefordshire.
Born in Somerset, William was brought up in Merthyr Tydfil before training as a carpenter and working as a carriagemaker with the Taff Vale Railway. In later life, William moved to a managerial position with Cardiff City Transport Department.
The year prior to his sole appearance in county cricket, William had married Margaret Smith, a native of Maesteg. The couple subsequently lived in the Rumney area of Cardiff and had six daughters and two sons. Joseph, their eldest son, was sadly killed during June 1915 in Flanders whilst serving with the Third Dragoon Guards in the Prince of Wales’ Regiment.
