William Deacon, a well-to-do banker and Old Etonian, made one appearance for Glamorganshire against Carmarthenshire at Neath on 8 and 9 September 1864. He scored 30 and 0 in what proved to be his last match of note and sole appearance for the Welsh county.

Born in Battersea, he had attended Trinity College, Cambridge and appeared in 1848, 1849 and 1850 for the University as well as playing for the Gentlemen of Kent. William also appeared for I Zingari and was a friend of JTD Llewelyn’s which probably explains why, despite no attachment to Glamorganshire, he played for the Welsh county.
