William Bennett played for Cardiff CC and was chosen for the Glamorganshire team between 1869 and 1874. He also played for the Gentlemen of South Wales from 1867 until 1869, as well as the Welsh Etceteras in 1872 and the Players of South Wales in 1874.
He hold a special place in the history of Glamorganshire as, batting at number ten, in the match against Monmouthshire at Cardiff Arms Park on 11 and 12 June 1871, he scored an unbeaten 117.
He ran a brickmaking business in the thriving inner suburb of Canton, to the west of the city centre of Cardiff.
