Will Thomas was a decent all-rounder with Swansea CC and played in the Gentlemen of Glamorgan’s two matches against their counterparts from Carmarthenshire during July 1914. The seam bowler claimed four wickets, but was dismissed without scoring in the first contest on his home patch at St. Helen’s. He didn’t have any success with the ball in the return contest at Stradey Park, but scored 9 and 0.
The following year he was in Ernest Tyler’s County XI which played Christ College Brecon, with Will batting at number three and top-scoring with 41 as the scratch Glamorgan XI beat the Brecon scholars by 107 runs. Sadly, this match on 16 June 1915 proved to be his final match of note as the constructional engineer became a Private in the Royal Army Service Corps (Mechanical Transport) and lost his life whilst in action in Salonika on 2 September 1917.
