Will Bragg was a regular member of Glamorgan’s top-order from 2011 until 2017 when an abdominal injury and illness forced him into premature retirement.

Having shown rich promise in club cricket for Panteg and for the Wales Minor Counties side , Will had initially joined the Glamorgan staff in 2007 as the understudy wicket-keeper to Mark Wallace. It was a tribute to his all-round abilities that he subsequently developed into a specialist top-order batsman as well as a handy medium-pace bowler with a knack of breaking stubborn partnerships with his skiddy seamers .

The southpaw made his Championship debut during 2007 against Somerset at Taunton and he secured a regular place in Glamorgan’s side from 2011. That summer he also posted his maiden Championship hundred against Leicestershire at Colwyn Bay and a measure of his consistency as a solid and assertive batsman was that he also passed the 1000-run for the first of three occasions during his career.

2016 saw Will make his career-best score of 161* against Essex in their drawn game at Cardiff, but his most valuable innings from a team perspective was his five and three-quarter hour vigil against Worcestershire at the same ground during 2014 as he chiseled out an unbeaten 91 against the wiles of Pakistani spinner Saeed Ajmal with Will’s defiant efforts helping Glamorgan to save the game. He deservedly won his county cap the following summer.

He also blossomed in white-ball cricket with the left-hander making 88 against Surrey at Guildford in 2014, despite being summoned on the morning of the Royal London One-Day game as a late replacement after Jim Allenby had been taken ill overnight. His sterling efforts laid the foundations for what proved to be a successful run-chase as the Welsh county stormed home by three-wickets. In what proved to be his last summer of county cricket, Will made a career-best List A score as he posted 94 from 101 balls in the Royal London One-Day Cup match against the Kent Spitfires at Swansea.
