Walter Shepherd, and his brother Edwin, were stalwart members of Swansea CC, with Walter being the club’s first choice wicket-keeper from the mid-1880s until the mid-1890s.

With Dan Thissen, the Morriston wicket-keeper, unavailable for the Minor County Friendy against the MCC at Swansea in June 1890, Walter was called up for his one and only appearance for Glamorgan.

He was a schoolmaster by profession, working initially as a junior master at St.Helen’s School before being promoted to Swansea Higher Grade School. At the time of his death, aged 46, Walter was the Headmaster of Plasmawr School.
