Usman Khawaja only had a brief stint with Glamorgan during 2018 but the left-handed batsman who was a member of Ashes winning Australian squads during 2017/18  and 2019 enjoyed a record-breaking time with the welsh county as he became the Club’s first-ever player to score centuries in each of their first three County Championship appearances.

His record-breaking sequence began with 125 against Warwickshire at Edgbaston as he emulated the likes of fellow overseas batsmen Matthew Elliott, Brendan McCullum and Mark Cosgrove by scoring a century in his first game for the Welsh county before going one stage further in his next match, against Derbyshire at Swansea, and made 126 to emulate the achievements of Javed Miandad who had scored back-to-back hundreds during May 1981.The Pakistan-born batsman then struck 104 against Northamptonshire in the day-night encounter at Sophia Gardens.

He then appeared for the Welsh county in the T20 competition and played some more frenetic innings in these white-ball games, compared with his more calm and assured presence at the crease in red-ball cricket. His stay in South Wales however was limited to the first seven zonal games as he was chosen for their A tour to India during August with Australia’s first-ever Pakistan-born Muslim cricketer heading back home in order to attend a pre-tour training camp.

He later put his excellent form with Glamorgan to good use, as in the opening rubber of the 2018/19 series against Pakistan, he saved the game for Australia, making 141 from 302 balls and occupying the crease for almost nine hours. Before his stint with Glamorgan, Usman had previously played county cricket for Derbyshire and Lancashire.
