Tom Norton made his 1st XI debut for Glamorgan in July 2024 in the showcase one-day friendly against Wiltshire at Swindon before in 2026, on his first-class debut for the Welsh county becoming the youngest-ever bowler to claim a hat-trick in first-class cricket.
The all-rounder had been a member of the Glamorgan Academy having been raised and educated in Abergavenny, with his great-grandfather having played for the British Lions during the 1950s. After some promising performances for the town’s club, Tom made his 2nd XI debut for Glamorgan in August 2022 aged fifteen against Gloucestershire at Panteg. The right-handed batter and seam bowler also impressed in age-group cricket for Wales.

In 2023 Tom acted as twelfth man in the showcase fixture against Herefordshire at Eastnor, and by making his 1st XI bow for the Welsh county at Swindon in 2024, Tom became, aged 16 years and 348 days, the youngest player to appear for the Welsh county since 2007 when James Harris played against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge a fortnight before his seventeenth birthday.
After leading the Glamorgan Under-18 team to the competition’s title in 2025, Tom enjoyed a decent time in the Super Fours at Loughborough, before – aged 18 years and 18 days – making his List A debut in the final Metro Bank One-Day Cup match of the summer against Leicestershire at Sophia Gardens.
Tom made a decent start to the 2026 season with Glamorgan 2nd XI, and after some good performances with the ball, he made his first-class debut against Somerset at Sophia Gardens in early May. It proved to be a dramatic first appearance as the eighteen-year old rookie Tom Norton became the youngest player to claim a hat-trick for Glamorgan in first-class cricket, beating the record previously held by Jeff Jones who, aged 20, achieved the feat during the match with Yorkshire at Harrogate in 1962. Tom also became the first player to claim a hat-trick on first-class debut in the County Championship for 120 years emulating the achievements in 1906 of William Benskin for Leicestershire against Essex at Southend and Herbert Sedgwick for Yorkshire against Worcestershire at Hull.
