Thomas Maxwell, an Irish-born administrator with various railway companies, played for Glamorganshire on five occasions during 1868 and 1869.

He lived in Swansea and made his debut in a major match on 6 and 7July 1868 at Bryn-y-Mor Field as he played for the Gentlemen of Swansea against the Australian Aborigines. Batting at number eleven, he scored 1 and 3. Ten days later, he made his Glamorgan debut as he played against Breconshire at The Gnoll and scored 3* and 10. The following month, Thomas also played for the Gentlemen of South Wales against the Players, again at the Bryn-y-Mor, but he bagged a pair.

1869 saw Thomas make four further appearances for Glamorganshire, both at home and away against Monmouthshire, as well as in games at The Gnoll against Radnorshire and Breconshire. The former proved to be his most successful outing as he made 0 and 13.

Thomas had initially worked as an accountant with South Wales Railway before securing a post as a goods agent with the Great Western Railway, based at Pontypool and New Inn. His move away from Swansea however ended his cricket-playing career.
