Educated at Winchester College and Trinity Hall, Cambridge, Bryn Edwards was the eldest son of William Edwards, the Managing Director of the Duffryn Steel and Tinplate Works.
A talented sportsman, Bryn played hockey for Wales, besides appearing twice for the Gentlemen of Glamorgan against their counterparts from Carmarthenshire during 1914. In the match at Stradey Park he also played alongside his younger brother William Armine Edwards, who had also played for the full county side during 1913 but sadly lost his life in Palestine during November 1917.
In the 1921 Birthday Honours List, Brun was elevated to the position of Baronet of Treforis and he seemd destined for a promninent role in the political and social leadership of South Wales during the years immediately after the Great War. However, Bryn suffered from ill health and after a two-year battle, he died during August 1922 at the age of just 22.
Having married the daughter of the Dillwyn Spelter Works, Bryn lived at Hendrefoilan House. It later became part of the campus of Swansea University and until 2006 was also the home of the South Wales Miners’ Library.
