Ryan Watkins spent six years on the Glamorgan staff during which time he became the Club’s first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in T20 cricket.

The left-handed batsman and right-arm seamer had made his first-class debut for Glamorgan in 2005 after several useful all-round performances for Newport CC, Blackwood CC, as well as Glamorgan’s youth and 2nd  XI for whom he first-played in 2001. During his first couple of years on the Glamorgan staff, Ryan had a spell as an opening batsman, and it was whilst he was at the top of the order that Ryan made a career-best 87 against Essex at Cardiff in 2002.

However, Ryan failed to win a regular place in the four-day team, and instead he became a handy performer in white-ball cricket . Indeed, in 2009 – his final year on the staff – he returned figures of 5/16 against Gloucestershire at Cardiff.

After being released from the county’s staff, Ryan has subsequently became a policeman.
