Roger Price made his one and only appearance for the Gentlemen of Glamorgan in the hastily-arranged two-day game at Clarence Park in Weston-super-Mare on 21 and 22 August 1914 against a Weston and District XI.
The Brecon-born spinner was a stalwart of the Cardiff Alpha club and regularly played in club cricket alongside several of the other amateurs who appeared for the Gentlemen of Glamorgan. He took a wicket in each of the home team’s innings and, batting at number eleven scored an unbeaten 1 as the Glamorgan team won by an innings and 64 runs.
A coal merchant by trade, Roger had a reserved occupation during the Great War, overseeing the distribution of coal from the Docks at Cardiff for the War Effort. This explains why, on 28 August 1915, he was able to play for a Glamorgan XI, organized by schoolmaster George Cording, which played a one-day friendly against Barry Athletic CC at Barry Island.
Roger lived at 30 Syr David’s Avenue in Canton and his son, Ronald, played for the Glamorgan Colts during 1925.
