The son of Vernon Morris, Robert was educated at Blundell’s School and, whilst at the famous public school in Tiverton, he won a place in the Public Schools XI which played at Lord’s in August 1944. A few weeks later, the schoolboy made his Glamorgan debut against the Anti-Aircraft Command at Newport. It proved though to be his only appearnce for the Welsh county/
He enjoyed further success the following year for the Devon school, besides appearing again for the Public Schools at Lord’s, before going up to Cambridge. His father had been a company director in Orpington since before the War so whilst an undergraduate, the talented batsman also played in second eleven cricket for Kent, before making two Championship appearances in August 1950. Both were against Derbyshire in consecutive games at Derby and Dover.
