Born in Carmarthenshire during 1837, David Thomas was another very enthusiastic cricketing cleric. He played for his native county in the early 1860s whilst studying theology at Oxford University.
In 1864 he was appointed the Vicar of Margam and his appointment allowed him to mix with many of the leading members of the Cadoxton and Swansea clubs. In 1866 he appeared fot the latter against the United England Eleven at Brunswick Field, before, the following year, travelling to Wrexham to play for the South Wales XI against their counterparts from the North.1868 also saw David play for Cadoxton against the United South of England, as well as for West Glamorgan against East Glamorgan at Merthyr Mawr.
David made his Glamorganshire debut in July 1868 against Breconshire before appearing three further times for the county in 1869, including Breconshire against whom he made a career-best 22. Rev. Thomas also played for the Gentlemen of South Wales against the Players in 1869 prior to making what proved to be his final county appearance in 1870 against Monmouthshire.
The following summer he left South Wales following his appointment as Rector of Garsington in Oxfordshire. He remained there for the rest of his life.
