Ralph Trubshaw played for Carmarthenshire between 1911 and 1920 besides appearing, alongside his brother Charles, for the Gentlemen of Glamorgan against the Players at Neath on 5 and 6 September 1912. The seam bowler took five wickets in the drawn match, besides recording scores of 0 and 19.
He was the son of Ernest Trubshaw, the Managing Director of the Western Tinplate Works in Llanelli and a decent enough cricketer to play with distinction for Cardiganshire and Llanelli CC in the 1860s and 1870s. Ralph attended Uppingham School and Clare College, Cambridge where he won a rugby Blue, before succeeding his father in the tinplate trade in Llanelli.
Ralph also served as a Second Lieutenant in the 1st West Riding Brigade in France during the Great War and was awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours in 1919. His nephew was Brian Trubshaw, the chief test pilot of Concorde, who had been in the XI at Winchester College and had played for the RAF in 1946.
