Peter Crowther scored 99 on his first-class debut for Glamorgan, against Cambridge University at Fenner`s in 1977, but the right-handed batsman never got another chance to score a hundred for the Welsh county as, after suffering health problems the following summer, he asked to be released from his contract.

After some impressive innings for Neath CC – and later Maesteg Town CC – Peter had first played for Glamorgan 2nd XI in 1971 before studying at Aberystwyth University. He also played  for Wales against Ireland in 1974 and Scotland in 1976, in addition to East Africa in their 1975 World Cup warm-up game at Swansea.

After some decent innings in 2nd XI games, Peter played in three Championship games during both June 1977 as well as 1978, plus a Sunday League game away to Derbyshire. But in ten  innings against county opposition Peter only amassed 32 runs.
