Oliver Jones, who played once for Glamorganshire in 1873, was the eldest son of Robert Oliver Jones whose ancestral home was at Fonmon Castle, a medieval castle and Grade One listed building to the west of Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Educated at Cheltenham College and Exeter College, Oxford, Oliver played club cricket as a young man for Penmark CC and Cowbridge CC prior to becoming a barrister.

In 1873 Oliver was chosen in the Glamorganshire team which met Breconshire at Cardiff Arms Park on 18 and 19 July. Batting at number six, Oliver scored 0 and 1 in what proved to be his one and only appearance at county level.
He was also a keen huntsman and was a member of the Glamorgan Hunt. In later life, Oliver also served as Chair of the Glamorgan Quarter Sessions, in addition to holding several public positions, including being Chair of the Llandaff and Dinas Powis Rural District Council.
