Matthew Kuhnemann joined Glamorgan in 2025 on a short-term deal, ahead of the World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord’s, with his Glamorgan debut coming against Middlesex at Sophia Gardens in mid-May when Ben Kellaway was absent owing to his Finals at Cardiff University.

In the absence of the Biology undergraduate, Matthew recorded career-best bowling figures of 6/53, and a match return of 7/75 as Glamorgan defeated Middlesex by ten wickets.
At the time of his signing, the left-handed batter and spin bowler had appeared in 5 Test Matches and 4 One-Day Internationals for Australia. The 28 year-old had made his List A debut for Queensland in 2017/18 before making his first-class debut for the state the following season, besides appearing in the Big Bash for the Brisbane Heat.
Matthew’s international bow came during June 2022 when he played in the One-Day International against Sri Lanka at Pallekele, before making his Test debut against India in the Second Test in February 2023. He claimed 5/16 at Indore in the Third Test and helped guide Australia to victory. However, during the 2025 tour of Sri Lanka, his action was reported by the match officials after he had claimed 16 wickets at 17 runs apiece in the series. He subsequently modified his action and was cleared by the ICC to bowl again in international cricket.
Matthew has experience of playing in the UK having first appeared as a teenager for Bishop’s Stortford in the Hertfordshire Premier League. He also played for Durham in the County Championship during 2023 but a back injury cut short his participation. Matthew currently plays his domestic cricket in Australia for Tasmania.
