Martin van Jaarsveld became Glamorgan’s second-ever Kolpak signing (after fellow Springbok Garnett Kruger) as the 37 year-old batter spent a couple of months in the middle of the 2012 with the Welsh county, having arrived in Wales fresh from leading the Nashua Titans to the domestic double in South Africa.

The experienced South African, who had played in 9 Tests and 11 One-Day Internationals, mixed appearances in T20 and List A matches together with work as a batting mentor, drawing on his wealth of experience in county cricket with Northamptonshire and Kent.

He duly played a series of cameo innings in the middle order for the Welsh county, especially in T20 games but his impact on the field was affected by the loss of a record number of matches to the unseasonal weather.
