Martin Phillips

Martin Phillips played three times for Glamorgan in Minor County Championship matches during 1897.

He had a fine record as a fast-medium bowler in the Cardiff and District League, and following some decent performances for St. Mary’s CC and Cathays CC the tailor was recruited by Cardiff CC where he continued to impress with some lively seam bowling.

Eager to blood new talent, the Glamorgan selectors called upon his services for three away matches during August 1897. Martin’s debut came against Wiltshire at Swindon, before appearances in the back-to-back matches against Worcestershire at Kidderminster and Cornwall at Penzance. However, he did little of note at county level and although not called again by Glamorgan, Martin remained a handy seam bowler in club cricket for Cardiff CC.
