Louis Harrop had a decent record during the 1880s as a seam bowler in club cricket for Swansea CC. His success led to the Cheshire-born bowler’s inclusion by the South Wales Cricket Club’s for their Trial Match at St. Helen’s, initially in 1880 for the Next XVIII before, in 1884 playing for their chosen XI. The latter game saw Louis enjoy a more successful time on his home patch, claiming eight wickets with his seam bowling.
Two years later, Louis was included in the Club’s party for the London tour, during which he played against Surrey Club and Ground at The Oval as well as the MCC at Lord’s. He went wicketless in both matches and failed to reach double figures in his three innings, with scores of 2 and 7 at The Oval, and 4 at Lord’s.
Louis was included again by the Club during 1886 when the MCC visited Swansea. This time he opened the batting, scoring 24 and 1, besides returning the exemplary figures of 9-6-6-0.
Louis was a publishing agent and bookseller by profession, working subsequently in Birmingham as well as Nottingham where he represented Virtue and Company, the London-based publishing house. He married Grace Mears ain Boston Spa, South Yorkshire during March 1891.
