August 2024 saw Ned Leonard, the 22 year-old seam-bowler join Glamorgan on loan from Somerset for the remainder of the season, before agreeing terms with the Welsh county for 2025 and 2026.
Born in London and educated at Millfield School, the right-arm batter and fast-medium bowler played age-group cricket for Middlesex before joining Somerset’s Academy in 2018. Having also made his 2nd XI debut for Somerset that summer, Ned secured his first professional contract with the West Country side in September 2020 having also played for the England U19s.
Ned, who has played for Bridgwater CC in the West of England Premier League, has Welsh grandparents who hail from the Abergavenny and New Tredegar area and had taken three first-class wickets, plus thirteen in List A cricket at the time of his loan move to Glamorgan. He duly made his debut for the Welsh county at Derby in 2024.
Ned featured in a number of red-ball and white-ball matches during 2025 and further developed his talents as a seam bowler. His standout performance came at Taunton, against his former employers, where in the Vitality T20 contest he produced a match winning spell of 5/25 as Somerset – the eventual winners of the competition – suffered one of only three defeats in that format during 2025.
