Kamal Somaia played briefly for Glamorgan during 1989. Born in London to a couple from East Africa, Kamal’s parents moved to India when he was an infant, before at the age of seven the family moved again to Australia.
The graduate of Melbourne University showed promise as a left-arm spinner and during the late 1980`s he had trials with various English counties whilst playing in League cricket in Yorkshire and Staffordshire.
He joined Glamorgan`s staff in 1989 and appeared in three Championship matches, plus two List A games. He took a five-wicket haul against Leicestershire in the Championship match at Cardiff , but did little else of note. Kamal was released at the end of the summer and has subsequently returned to Australia where he has become a successful businessman.
