Joseph Moore was a late selection for Glamorgan’s away match with Devon in Plymouth during August 1906. He duly played alongside his younger and more talented brother Howell ,with his inclusion in the team following some decent performances in club cricket for Neath.
Educated at Winchester and Oxford, Joseph enjoyed a successful military career having joined in 1903 the Glamorgan Yeomanry, where he rose to the rank of major. During the Great War, he also served in Egypt as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Fifth Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment.
At the time of his appearance in the Glamorgan side in 1906, Joseph was in his fourth year on the Club’s committee, and had planned originally to travel to Devon to watch his brother play and assist with any off-field administration. He continued to serve on the committee until 1909, but never had any other surprise call-ups.
