John Walker was a trainee chemist who played once for Glamorganshire, against Breconshire at Cardiff Arms Park in July 1874. Batting at number ten, the youngster made 1 and 3 and it seems, that – as a member of Cardiff CC – he may have been a late call-up to the team.

Within a few years, he had left South Wales and returned to his native Sunderland.
