John subsequently played for Briton Ferry Town CC before moving to Scotland where he secured an appointment with Hawick CC.
His father was a schoolmaster in Cardiff and, after retiring from playing cricket, John secured employment working as a labourer on various farms in Cowbridge and the Vale of Glamorgan.
