A tailor by trade, John McKay played once for Glamorgan in 1895, in their Minor County Friendly against Monmouthshire at Usk.
The game however clashed with the General Election and local newspapers, in reporting on the squad chosen by the Glamorgan selectors commented how “a majority of the first choice players were unable to get away.” John had a decent recent for Cardiff CC before opening a new business in Newport and switching his allegiance to Monmouthshire for whom he played between 1900 and 1902.
