John Davis

John Davis played 14 times for Glamorgan in first-class matches between 1959 and 1967 before going into teaching.

The left-arm spinner had shone at both Llandaff Cathedral School and Blundell`s, before going up to St. John`s College, Oxford where he won a cricket Blue in 1963. That summer, John made a career-best 63 for Oxford University against Northamptonshire at The Parks, besides taking 5/67 against Cambridge University in the Varsity Match at Lord’s.

John had made his Glamorgan debut in 1959 against the Indian tourists at Swansea, and after coming down from Oxford he joined the county`s full-time staff. He duly made a further thirteen appearances for Glamorgan with his best performance coming at Edgbaston in 1966 when he took 5/72 against Warwickshire.

John left the world of professional cricket at the end of 1967 and commenced his teaching career at Berkhamsted School. However, during 1970 he re-appeared for the Welsh county in a couple of List A matches.

He is the elder brother of Roger Davis.
