John Crawford, a Scottish-born insurance agent, played once for Glamorganshire, against Breconshire at Brecon on 20 and 21 July 1875. Opening the batting, he scored 8 and 3 as the home team recorded an innings victory.

John had moved to Swansea around 1862 and lived in the St. Helen’s area of the town. As a keen sportsman, and member of Swansea CC, as well as Cadoxton CC, he must have been pleased to move to a house in Gorse Lane adjacent to the St. Helen’s Recreation Field following its creation in 1875. That year he also played for the Gentlemen of West Glamorgan against their counterparts from the East at Merthyr Mawr.

He was also a member of the South Wales Cricket Club and in July 1876 he played on the new facility near his home when the Club staged a trial match between their 1st XI and their Next XVIII. He opened the batting for the latter and scored 3 before being bowled by CP Lewis.
