Another product of Pontypridd Grammar School and Pontypridd CC, Herbert Jones first played at county level for Glamorgan Future against Glamorgan Past at the Arms Park in 1943 before, a few weeks later, playing against the RAF at Barry Island.
The all=rounder subsequently played for Glamorgan against Western Command in 1944 as well as against the Royal Australian Air Force at the Arms Park in 1945 plus the National Fire Service on his home patch at Ynysangharad Park in Pontypridd.
By this time, he had commenced on his medical studies and, during June 1948, he emigrated to Canada. He had got married in Pontypridd during 1940 and therefore he settled with his wife and two children in Ontario, where he remained for the rest of his life.
