He was one of several late replacements in the Gentlemen of Glamorgan team which met the Players at Neath on June 12 and 13, 1913 in a match to raise funds for the county club. Norman Riches, Stanley Rees, Jock Tait and the Trubshaw brothers from Carmarthenshire all dropped out on the morning of the game, despite having been named in the line-up in the newspapers on the morning of the game.
Lewis, who played for Cardiff CC, was amongst the gentlemen drafted into the team. Batting at number eight he made 3 in the first innings before making an unbeaten 28 in the second innings and sharing a seventh-wicket stand with William Odell, the former Warwickshire batter, which briefly raised the Gentlemen’s hopes of victory. But after making 58 Odell was stumped advancing down the wicket to Bert Vogler, the former South African leg-spinner, who was the professional at Llanelli that year. Despite Lewis’ resistance, Vogler and Harry Creber polished off the remainder of the innings as the Players won by 24 runs.
