George Thompson, who at the time was working as a clerk in a coal shipping business in the Swansea area, played once for Glamorganshire in 1861, appearing against Carmarthenshire at Llanelly House. Batting at number nine he scored 5 and 1 in what proved to be his sole appearance at county level.

He was the son of Richard George Hamer Thompson, a prosperous merchant at Swansea Docks. During 1872 George emigrated to Victoria, Australia having married Olivia O’Hara in St.Kilda in July. They subsequently lived in Melbourne where George became a well-known banker. Sadly, George had died by 1904 when their daughter Olive Murial married Lord Francis Hope, the eighth Duke of Newcastle.
