George May, a former pupil of Cowbridge Grammar School, played ten times for Glamorganshire between 1868 and 1872, with his debut coming on 24 and 25 June against Breconshire at Brecon. However, he only scored 79 runs in 19 innings. Despite his modest batting record, George was also a regular in the Gentlemen of South Wales team which met the Players in an annual encounter between 1867 and 1870.

Born in Cowbridge, he moved to the Neath area where he mixed playing for the town club with owning and managing a chain and nail works. He also became involved in local politics and served as a member of Neath Town Council. George later moved to Penarth, where he ran a rope and wire works.
