Gareth Rees played in Championship cricket for Glamorgan over the course of a nine-year period during the 2000s and 2010s.

The left-handed opening batsman had made his Glamorgan debut in 2006 on the back of some impressive performances for the 2nd XI shortly after graduating with first-class honours in Maths and Physics from the University of Bath. The following summer he scored the first of thirteen Championship hundreds for Glamorgan with 107 against Essex at Swansea.

2009 was a breakthrough summer for him as he posted 154 against Surrey at The Oval, besides also making hundreds against Essex and Northamptonshire in the Championship matches at Cardiff besides making an unbeaten 123 in the Friends Provident Trophy game at Chelmsford. No surprise, Gareth deservedly won his Glamorgan cap at the end of the summer.

Two years later, Gareth enjoyed a handsome season in white-ball cricket with centuries against Lancashire at Old Trafford and Essex at Chelmsford, besides sharing in a record-breaking opening stand of 199 with Alviro Petersen in the List A match against Lancashire at Colwyn Bay – a match which saw Gareth pull a massive six over the pavilion as well as sending another ball straight through a plate glass window in the pavilion!

In 2012 Gareth played for the MCC against Lancashire in the Champion County match, but he subsequently lost his place in the Championship line-up and during September 2014  opted to call time on his cricket career and returned to Bath University’s School of Management to study for an executive MBA to develop his career away from professional cricket. Gareth subsequently joined the Glamorgan Board during 2019.
