Frederick Humfrey was a young law student who was drafted into the Glamorganshire side which played Radnorshire at Llandrindod Wells on 8 and 9 August 1872. Opening the batting, he scored 2 and 0 in what proved to be his only match of note.

He was the son of James Humfrey JP of Llanwenarth House near Abergavenny and had been educated at Clifton College and Trinity College, Oxford. He was a member of Clifton CC and subsequently became a barrister.
