Frank Fifoot played cricket for Cardiff CCC and was a leading personality at the city’s Coal Exchange where he worked as a senior partner in the coal exporters JP Hacquoil and Company, a business he had joined straight from leaving school in 1876.
In 1881 he joined the South Wales Cricket Club on their tour to the London area, and played against the MCC at Lord’s as well as Surrey Club and Ground at The Oval. His unbeaten 9, made at number eleven in the first innings proved to be his highest score in representative cricket. In 1892 Frank also played, at the age of 32 for the Glamorgan Colts against the county’s 1st XI but bagged a pair in the game at Swansea.
He subsequently held several important positions in the business world of Cardiff, serving as Director of the South Wales Coal Exporters Association and Chair of Cardiff Chamber of Commerce in 1914. During the Great War Frank was also Chair of the Cardiff Dock Advisory Committee and helped to ensure the smooth running of the facility during the hostilities.
Frank was also a Director of James Howell Ltd, the famous department store in the centre of the city, as well as Chair of Cardiff Institute of the Blind. A devout Christian, he was also closely involved in the affairs of Roath Road Wesleyan Methodist Chapel.
