Eric Whitman had a brief career with Glamorgan, with the young seamer opening the bowling with Jack Mercer against Leicestershire and Warwickshire during Glamorgan`s Midlands tour in 1932.
Eric was a talented schoolboy sportsman, showing promise as a bowler in university sport when a science undergraduate in Cardiff, besides representing Wales at hockey.
Some decent spells for Barry Athletic CC then led to his call-up, but despite the offer of professional terms with Glamorgan, Eric opted to become a schoolmaster. After training as a science teacher at Bristol University, he taught in the Home Counties, Cambridge and Dorset before becoming Headmaster of Sutton Coldfield Grammar School.
