Desmond Dawes appeared in the Glamorgan side which played the Anti-Aircraft Command at Newport in 1944, but he did not bat or bowl in the friendly.
At the time, he was starting his post-graduate medical studies whilst based briefly in South Wales. Educated at St. Cuthbert’s Grammar School in Newcastle and later Durham University, Desmond subsequently became a doctor and a consultant otolaryngologist in the north-east of England.
