Denis Hickey joined the Glamorgan staff in 1986 on a cricket scholarship from Australia. However, the young Victorian fast bowler became the county`s main overseas player for the majority of the season as Javed Miandad and Ezra Moseley each sustained injuries.

Given his limited experience, Denis did a respectable job, although he failed to record a five-wicket haul in Championship games and recorded his best figures of 5/57 against Oxford University at The Parks.

After returning to Australia, Denis switched his allegiances from Victoria to South Australia during 1990/91, and preceded to win a place in the Australia `A` side to tour Zimbabwe in 1991. He continued to play Shield cricket until 1994/95.
