Cyril Jones

Cyril Jones was a right-handed batsman who played once for Glamorgan during 1926 in the away match with Leicestershire. He did not bat or bowl, but did catch George Geary off the spin bowling of Frank Ryan.

He had been a late call-up for the match when another amateur dropped out and like the rest of the Glamorgan side, the impact of the General Strike meant they travelled to the East Midlands in an open-topped charabanc, rather than by steam train.

Although he had a very anonymous time in his sole Championship appearance, Cyril had a decent record in club cricket for Cardiff CC and Barry Athletic CC, and had played for Glamorgan’s Club and Ground side since 1922.
