Brad Wheal, a right-arm fast-medium bowler and batter, joined Glamorgan on loan from Hampshire during April 2024 for the Vitality County Championship match against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road. His acquisition followed a series of injuries to other bowlers – Timm van der Gugten (calf), Jamie McIlroy (shoulder) and Harry Podmore (thumb).

The 27 year-old made his first-class debut for Hampshire in 2015, and at the start of the 2024 season, he had claimed 109 first-class wickets. Brad also appeared in The Hundred for London Spirit during 2021 and 2022, as well as the Tent Rockets in 2023. Brad also had loan spells with Gloucestershire and Warwickshire in 2022.

Born and raised in South Africa, Brad has a Scottish mother and is therefore qualified to play for Scotland. At the time of his joining Glamorgan, Brad has appeared in 14 One-Day Internationals and 17 International T20s for Scotland.

Following the confirmation of Brad’s acquisition Glamorgan’s Head Coach, Grant Bradburn said: “We are certainly frustrated by our high injury count in this early part of the season, though all four players are progressing well under expert guidance from our medical team.Brad Wheal adds extra pace, bounce and swing, which will compliment our attack nicely. Having coached him previously with Scotland, Toby Bailey and I are confident Brad will enjoy and add huge value to our environment.”

Brad Wheal, on signing, added: “I’m really excited to be joining Glamorgan on loan. It’s an honour to have the opportunity to play for such a great county, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s success. I’ll be doing everything I can to make a positive impact and help get an important win.”
