Arthur Redwood, a solicitor in Newport, played for Glamorganshire during the early 1870s with the highlight of his playing career being an innings of 63 for the Gentlemen of South Wales against the Players at Cardiff Arms Park in August 1874.
Educated at Cowbridge Grammar School, he was the son of Dr. Lewis Redwood, a surgeon who lived at Boverton House and worked initially in Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil before moving to Newport and living at Bassaleg House. His first taste of county cricket came for Glamorganshire in June 1871 when he played against Herefordshire, prior to appearing in the return contest at Cardiff Arms Park as well as turning out for Monmouthshire in their contest at Usk against Breconshire.
Between 1873 and 1875 Arthur also played for Breconshire, in addition to going on the South Wales Cricket Club’s London tour in 1875 where he played at Lord’s, The Oval and Hove. In 1879 he also played for the South Wales Cricket Club against Clifton College, whilst his last match of note came on 8, 9 and 10 September 1881 when he played for a Newport and District XXII against a United England team at Rodney Parade.
