Andrew Balbirnie was Glamorgan’s overseas player in the Vitality Blast competition during 2020 before having a short stint in the same capacity in the opening County Championship games of 2021.

Earlier in 2020, the Dubliner had led his Ireland side to victory over England in a One-Day International at The Ageas Bowl and during his sojourn in Wales, Andrew made an unbeaten 99 in the T20 match against Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens as he came within one run of making the first hundred on home soil by a Glamorgan batsman in T20 cricket. However, he met with less success in three Championship matches during 2021.

Born and raised in Dublin, Andrew was a member of the Cardiff Met squad during 2012 and 2013, besides being on the books of Middlesex between 2012 and 2015. By this time, he had already played in One-Day Internationals for Ireland having made his debut in July 2010 against Scotland. His Test Match debut came in May 2018 against Pakistan at the Malahide ground in Dublin.
