Tragedy accompanied the Club’s affairs during 1893 with the death of Willie Llewelyn – the son of JTD and a man tipped to be a future leader of the county side.

He had scored an attractive 50 against Devon at St. Helen’s, whilst in late July he had also led the Welsh county to an innings victory against Monmouthshire at Newport as Glamorgan completed home and away doubles against both opponents.

All seemed very rosy in the cricketing world of Willie Llewelyn, but on 24 August, he was found dead in the grounds of Penllergaer House. “A tragic accident” pronounced the local newspapers, speculating on events as the young gentleman had been out shooting.
